Summer Camp at Roots + Wings Creative Campus:

Inventors Workshop and LEGO WeDo

August 1 - 5

9:00 - 1:00

Over the course of a week, students will invent new machines and explore creative design solutions using the Engineering Design Process. Discover how a wind-up toy works and design your own drawing robot inside the Inventor’s Workshop! Next, kids will experience both the design and programming part of being a robotics engineer using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.

Add on Summer Camps at Roots + Wings Creative Campus:

Twisted Fairy Tales

JUNE 13 - 17

2:00pm - 4:00pm

Ever wonder how we got to the Happily Ever After in traditional fairy tales? Students will explore a few fairy tales from different points of view and engage in activities to investigate solutions for each fairy tale’s obstacles. In the Twisted Fairy Tales Camp, we will design a getaway vehicle for the heroine from Kate and the Beanstalk, help The Three Billy Goats Fluff devise a method to cross the bridge quietly and not wake the Troll, and construct an edible reef to protect The Three Little Fish from the Big Bad Shark! Join us as we explore the Engineering of Fairy Tales!

Aerospace Engineering

JUNE 27 - JULY 1

2:00pm - 4:00pm

Taking to the Skies The Junior Aerospace Engineering camp introduces our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design. Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons, and more.

Wings, Wheels, and Sails

JULY 11 - 15

2:00pm - 4:00pm

Everyone has to travel, and engineers are involved in all the steps of designing different modes of transportation as well as inventing and designing tools that aid in travel. Everyone’s travel needs are different, whether they need to walk around their local community to do errands, or they need to be half way across the world by evening! During this camp, students will get their passports and travel to a new country every day by a different means! They will engineer their mode of transportation or tool to aid in transportation daily to get to their destination country.

Summer Camps at Henderson County Athletics and Activity Center (HCAAC)

Inventors Workshop and LEGO WeDo

 June 20 - 24

 9:00am - 1:00pm

Discover how a wind-up toy works and design your own drawing robot inside the Inventor’s Workshop!  Next, kids will experience both the design and programming part of being a robotics engineer using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.

Sail the Seas and LEGO WeDo

July 18 - 22

9:00am - 1:00pm

Jump on board and join the crew to work together to explore the every-day engineering challenges that pirates were once faced with. During this week, students will explore the ideas of buoyancy and surface area as they design their pirate ships, the sails for their ships, and a system to retrieve sunken treasures! So what do you say; Are ye’ ready to sail the seas?

Junior LEGO® Robotics Adventure Stories - The challenge facing robotics engineers is that the robot literally knows only what is written into the program. The design of the robot must also be capable of performing the task at hand. In this unit, kids will experience both the design and programming part of being a robotics engineer.
